newest signage trends...

calligraphy and hand-lettered signage at a wedding or event is truly special, and really gives your guests an intimate look into who you are, and the couple that you have become.

there are so many wonderful ways to personalize signs. from traditional, to whimsy, to funky - they really bring that something extra to an event!

these past years, chalkboards have been all the rage for the base material for wedding signs. and they have had a good run - and you will still see them used from time to time. but the shift from rustic wedding decor has begun (that's right mason jars and wood rounds - i'm looking at you! disappear!!), and couples are looking for new and unique materials that can be used for signs.

below are some of the newest and greatest (and i am so happy to work on them too) signage materials showing up lately:

+ wooden signs
  • sanding and staining a piece of wood, that can be bought at lowe's or your local hardware store
  • if your wedding is more modern - a darker stain works
  • if your wedding is more romantic - a lighter stain does the trick!
+ painting over chalkboards with other colors
  • this notion was brought up by my calligra-pal, morgan of a perfect fete designs - and i think it is brilliant!
  • instead of covering everything with chalkboard paint - use a can of spray paint in grey, white or any color you fancy - and paint over those surfaces! trust me, there's a pen that you can find that can write over just about anything.
+ mirrors
  • gorgeous, romantic, timeless
  • 'nuff said
+ vintage window panes
  • still want that rustic look, but not a chalkboard? vintage window panes are the best alternative!
+ acrylic sheets
  • my newest obsession for signage
  • buy sheets of acrylics at your local hardware store - and write away! they definitely can be super modern, and can add a bit of an edge - but also have those lovely clean lines. if you drape a greenery "boa" on top with some florals, it automatically adds that romantic touch

but, what i always remember, regardless of what i am writing on - it's always the what is written that means the most!

perfect example of something fun, and so true to the bride and groom's personalities! this was a quote that the b&g wanted on a vintage window pane that she found while antiquing. when i dropped it off to bride's father the day before the wedding - he couldn't stop laughing!! love it.
